Long Beach CA - Cut&Paste Rock&Roll is pleased to announce the 2010 Queer Youth

based LGBTQIA community members, Cut&Paste Rock&Roll selected the following
applicants for this year’s awards:

$300 Prize: Victor Galvan-Rico Long Beach Renaissance High School for the Arts
$200 Prize: Lenna Assaf UCLA World Arts and Cultures Department
$100 Prize: King Chan Will J Reid High School
Honorable Mention Prize: Marilee Rust California State University Channel Islands

This is the first annual scholarship award presented by Cut&Paste Rock&Roll. Funding for
the scholarship came from the proceeds from the 2nd annual Cut&Paste Rock&Roll
LGBTQIA music and art festival held in February and from personal donations. Cut&Paste
Rock&Roll is very proud to assist these deserving students who are striving daily to be role
models to the LGBTQIA community.

The Queer Youth Scholarship Awards were presented to the winners on June 30, 2010 at
9pm at the Art Theatre of Long Beach located at 2025 E. 4th Street. The award
ceremony was held prior to the screening of “But I’m Cheerleader” the first film scheduled
for the new movie series put on by Mondo Celluloid and the AMP Organization both Long
Beach based nonprofit groups passionate about the artistic community they serve.
In order to be eligible for the award, each applicant submitted a personal essay and a
creative piece ranging from poetry, spoken word, drawing, painting and dance. All of the
applications were reviewed by a committee of LGBTQIA people including Logan Crow,
Executive Director of Mondo Celluloid, Debonee Morgan MFT, writer and journalist Sylvia
Rodemeyer, activist and scholar Benny Le Master and Annie Parkhurst, founder of
Cut&Paste Rock&Roll and the AMP Organization. While choosing the winners was a difficult
decision for all involved, it was very easy to see the talent, courage and bright future all of
the applicants have.

About Cut&Paste Rock&Roll Since the organization’s grassroots beginnings in 2008,
Cut&Paste Rock&Roll has become a premier LGBTQIA music and art event in Southern
California. Each CPRR event features local artists and performers who are often
marginalized in the mainstream music and art communities because of their orientation,
beliefs and/or color. Cut&Paste Rock&Roll celebrates diversity and has successfully created
a positive, affirming space to see and be seen in the queer community.
